This workshop offers time to feel and to listen deeply to the powerful intelligence of the body and to create personal and collective dances that have meaning. Sessions will include the practice of Movement Ritual, movement explorations, scoring- the making of dances, and an afternoon amongst the redwood trees.
This workshop will offer resources and inspiration to take back home. It will be held at Anna Halprin’s Mountain Home studio, which features indoor and outdoor studios. Sitting on the flanks of Mount Tamalpais, Mountain Home is surrounded by natural beauty. It is centrally located—only a short drive to San Francisco, Berkeley and Napa. An accommodation list provided. Those with and without previous dance or art experience are equally welcome. Art materials provided.
This is a unique opportunity to work with Anna Halprin, at age 90, in her own studio.
The Dance Heritage Coalition has named Anna Halprin one of "America's 100 Irreplaceable Dance Treasures." Anna Halprin's diverse career has spanned the field of dance since the late 1930s, creating revolutionary directions for the art form and inspiring fellow choreographers to take modern dance to new dimensions. At 89 90, Halprin continues to create revolutionary work exploring the beauty of the aging body and its relationship to nature. Halprin Ph.D. (Hon.) co-founded the Tamalpa Institute. She is the author of Movement Ritual, Moving Toward Life, Five Decades of Transformational Dance, and Dance As A Healing Art/Returning to Health, and has numerous dance works documented on film.
